A friend and I were arrested at protest at the Federal Building in May because one of the Paragon Systems private security guards (who dress like law enforcement officers but are not) was unfamiliar with the law and seemingly believed that photographing the security equipment in the lobby behind the clear glass wall from the sidewalk was unlawful. We were each charged with 41 CFR 102-74.385 and ordered to appear in federal court. His case was dismissed. I’m scheduled for trial next month.

You might want to be familiar with DHS Federal Protective Service bulletin HQ-IB-012-2010, which was issued in August of 2010 and states:

For properties under the protective jurisdiction of FPS, there are currently no general security regulations prohibiting exterior photography of any federally owned or leased building, absent a written local rule or regulation established by a Court Security Committee or Facility Security Committee. Furthermore, it is important to understand that this regulation does not prohibit photography by individuals of the exterior of federally owned or leased iacilities lrom publicly accessible spaces such as streets, sidewalks, parks and plazas. Rather, this regulation only prescribes photography of the interior of lederally buildings, ie., “space occupied by a tenant agency” or “building entrances, lobbies, foyers, corridors, or audit0riums.” Therefore, absent reasonable suspicion or probable cause, law enforcement and security personnel and must allow individuals to photograph the exterior of federally owned or leased facilities hom publicly accessible spaces.

I salute you and will definitely join you in this uprising we must stand together and be heard and acknowledge in order to create the changes we need NOW!

Some of us choose not to belong to Facebook or Twitter, etc. Where can we find out about upcoming Occupy Seattle events before they are over? Will Occup Seattle keep going?

  • mark_a_d@q.com says:

I’m in Spokane, this is about as close as I get… for now

This event was so successful that it’s ongoing! 4 pm every day at the Fed! On Saturday, there’s also an awareness-spreading event and meeting to talk about where Occupy Seattle is headed:

The Fed is the wrong term for a Federal government building, and is generally used to refer to the Federal Reserve Bank(s) which are NOT part of the government. Rather, the Banks that make up the Fed have usurped the authority of the Treasury, and are posing as some kind of government agency, but they are a consortium of PRIVATE banks, who print their own money, and distribute it virtually free to their exclusive corporate members.

    Hi.
Can we update the “breaking” notice? We’re out there every day. I’m not sure people realize that.

We are not only standing with brothers, we are standing with many sisters, and many folks who identify as neither who we stand in solidarity with.
