Call a Constitutional Convention

How many people, especially politicians have no idea what the Constitution even says? That needs to change.

    • REPUBLIC says:

I tell you what since your establishment is socialist and communist oriented go ahead and move to Cuba, North Korea, and China. Find out how great is that type of government. You don’t know how good you have it in the US. Try to live in those countries you left wing socialist, progressive, communist lovers.

You know I lived in a country in Europe that is backwards socialist as you are and I was provided everything from the government, yes, all my basic needs were met, but I lived in poverty. Socialism, communism, your logo, and government entitlements are the slave owners of the people. Keep fighting for evil and eventually you will learn the hard way when the elite owns you too.

    to essentially start over…
“Although the Convention was intended to revise the Articles of Confederation, the intention from the outset of many of its proponents, chief among them James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, was to create a new government rather than fix the existing one.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_Convention_(United_States)

Way to take a historic event out of all context. Ever actually study American History? Do you use Wikipedia for all your knowledge?

The David Ferola 9 step plan

Step1) Send your TAXES to a trusted congressman or congresswoman which maybe hard to find in your state. Prepare your taxes made out to the I.R.S check and envelope, get another bigger envelope and fit in inside write on this envelope to congress preferably to Ron Paul

      Washington, DC
      203 Cannon House Office Building
      Washington, DC 20515
      Phone Number: (202) 225-2831

Have congress unwrap the envelopes, and send it to the I.R.S

If you are asking yourself, what will this achieve first it can be used as a bargain chip however, congress cannot spend it or over take the fed reserve and bank system over night, nonetheless this will indeed give teeth/meat, back to congress.

STEP2) At every rally SHOUT “Send you taxes to Ron Paul!”

Step 3) OWNERSHIP: With meat and teeth congress can demand ownership of the Federal Reserve, as to how much, well a good start would be 45 percent, of course congress should have full control of the fed reserve. However, letting the opposition think you’re a fair man goes a long way.

STEP4) Demand FREE copy rights and trademark and Patents for first timers, this will stimulate the economy, I know of someone who created the spinner rims, but he had no money to protect it, guess what a company/businessman from other country got there first, 4 billion dollars a year was generated and people were put to work. Having someone get there with a great idea first is nothing new but if small American inventors had an edge it would help greatly the economy. Imagine if everyone had a little dream supported by the government for first timers.

STEP5) At every rally SHOUT “free Patents free trademarks!”

We have reconstructed our constitution in the past and it is time to do so again. It is apparent to me that we are at a point with the current system where reform will not fix the systemic problems with society. We need a fresh perspective on what a fully functional democracy is. We need to learn from the mistakes and the triumphs of our government and governments all over the world to form something that can be the best for the most and not the best for the greedy.

Great idea! This time put something in there about social equality, not just political equality.

  • Mike P. says:

A Constitutional Convention is a dangerous idea. At a constitutional convention, the entire constitution can be rewritten. If the right-wingers prevail, we could wind up with a dictatorship.

    • Pete Wise says:

A constitutional convention would be extremely dangerous.
We already are facing a dictatorship: Right/left is polarity.
First of all returning to a constitutionally limited government is the beginning. The federal government has to be be limited first.
There are way to many people who have no real clear idea of what freedom is and what it means.
This will be a drastic down sizing and elimination of the EPA, FDA, the energy department, the education department, the department of offense erroneously called defense. Until the monopolies created by all these unconstitutional departments are eliminated we can not have freedom or experience it.
Many may think that this is wrong they have no understanding of freedom or the concept of a limited national federal governing body. we first of all have to return to a representative republic and get the idea of democracy out of the issue. Democracy sounds really good on the outside by begins to stink as it erodes our rights.
Enough have a day of freedom

It only let me vote for one thing, but a constitutional convention is what is really needed. This is something that you just do as it is deemed ethically valid for a nation, it is time we reevaluate our laws, our rights, our responsibilities, and our freedoms.

  • dirac says:

We should consider dissolution/secession. The US is a big nation, much bigger than when we started. The representation is no longer appropriately proportional. If we are to keep the US, then we should consider a much larger representative body. If a Constitutional Convention fails or if the Cons do indeed take it over, then we need to be prepared and go into it with the guarantees that we can pull out of that agreement.

Social contract is over people. The upper class has largely breached on their end of the bargain. All the legacy parties and existing institutions will not save you. The demand that we must make of a revolution is that our society respect a social contract or allow us to go our own way.

    Solidarity.

A bunch of smaller nations loosely held together sounds like a great idea…. O wait this is reality. It’s doing wonders in Europe and did wonders when the country was founded. When we had the Articles of Confederation except that pretty much failed. Succession is also a horribly bad idea. What stops individual counties of a state from succeding from a state when they don’t like a law, what about streets or even individual homes?

      • dirac says:

I found myself wondering that because there was certainly qualification in my statements. Of course, people are too dense nowadays to get qualification and nuance, so I shouldn’t expect much from an coward who cannot even recite historical facts correctly. But I am sorry to burst your bubble by giving a slightly non-conventional idea (not really).
What did wonders in Europe was the neoliberal notion of unifying the continent and currency. That’s what did wonders. It’s caused the current iteration of the long-term banking crisis there and we’ll have to reconstitute the Euro in order for it to survive. But keep believing the current system is sustainable…until it collapses.
The Articles of Confederation failed due largely to a banking crisis. Times are a little different, people are different–yeah, things are different from 1789 (except for banking problems)! I know, another hard concept for us Americans to comprehend. You know the notion that political innovation kept going past the Philadelphia Convention or outside the United States. Quelle surprise!

I’m very impressed with your logic. I find your arguement compelling and worthy of further discussion. Please feel free to comment back. I would very much like to explore this subject matter.

The U.S. is not ready to call a Constitutional Congress at this time for a number of reasons. As constitutional amendments are Constitutionally bound, they are done with as much care and consideration, They are subsequently not done very often. Because of this, when opened, EVERYONE tries to get ANYTHING they can written in. Want to REALLY screw up the U.S.? Stick with this one!

Yes, to add Health Care as a right and to add “natural born” people — to overturn Citizens United!

  • AndrewBWilliams says:

I would like to see an amendment that is simple and says:

“Corporations and other legal entities are not persons. Only natural persons may participate in the political process. Congress shall have the power to regulate the financing of elections.”

This will immediately strip corporations and unions of the ability to participate in the electoral process in any way. Only people with a pulse can participate. If a guy is rich he can spend his own money up to the limits allowed by congress, otherwise that is it.

A constitutional amendment is the only way to overturn the supreme court’s ruling in Citizens United. If we cannot get congress to send it to the states we might need to risk a constitutional convention or the right wing and the corporations will have won anyway since they can outspend the rest of us.
