10/8 March moved to 5PM. Rally still happening at Noon

Per the decision made at the 10/7 General Assembly. The march originally planned for Noon on 10/8 has been moved to 5PM. This is to support the Indigenous people’srally also being held at Westlake tomorrow from Noon to five. The organizers of this event have spoken in solidarity with our movement and we want to show respect and solidarity with them.

Rally still starts at noon and there WILL be many other activities among occupiers going on all day at West lake, so please come down for those. It is specifically the march that has been moved.

    A group of students from SDS, UW and WWU have made signs and banners and are planning to bring a little more visibility to the occupation by demonstrating in several small groups along I-5’s Seattle Exits and overpasses. The more groups and signs we can get to join us the better. Since the march has been moved to 5pm it will be a great time to try and spread our message to tens of thousands more viewers than just those people near Westlake. This is the time to keep up our momentum and keep recruiting members of the 99% who still do not know of this movement. I believe many people will get involved by simple exposure. The best way to lead is by example, after all. We are looking for people (or groups of people !) to help us cover the 45th 50th (U DISTRICT) 520 exit and any exits south of downtown. We have enough folks to cover 3 or 4, but obviously the more people the better. I hope were not stepping on any toes by not putting this action through a GA vote, but this shouldnt detract from or impose on anyone or overlap with the march/GA. We could still use more HUGE BANNERS (bed sheets? ) for this purpose. Dont worry about meeting up with any one except people you are planning to form small groups with, and just pick an exit, overpass, or intersection around the city to demonstrate. Our goal is to canvas the city and inundate motorists with the fact that this is OUR city and OUR movement. We are not going away and not going to be silenced. I hope some of you form small groups and join us for a few hours before the march, spreading our message and presence across our city. If you would like to coordinate with people and form groups, just use this post or the one on facebook to do so. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. take care and stay strong Seattle!

      @Alex Williamson

      If you’d like to capture the unfurling of the banner(s), I’d be glad to bring my video equipment and film it. How do I find out more about where people are meeting up to do this?

    • Neal Lekwa says:

      Alex Williamson, Doing a great job! Pls see http://www.SignsforSanity.org. I have commercial biz and print these huge banners and window clings at world’s lowest price. Will do pass-through Landed-Cost price for you and Occupy Seattle; we print twice a month. Call if you have a specific need, and need a price. 206-459-7676. Note: Occupy Seattle may have farms or be willing to ‘host’ a really large sign; worth exploring (those opposing us uses them).

      See legal info on the main page.

      “Hanging a banner from a bridge can lead to being charged with reckless endangerment.”

      Not saying do or don’t, just be prepared. Stay safe and stay smart.

    Trying to figure out specifically what we are trying to accomplish?

    • dan r. says:

      just to be heard and seen…..clearly the politicians are not getting it and why should they, they cozy with the lobbyists. People need to unite and be visible….its where our strength comes from. Voting only goes so far.

      • Scott says:

        I’m having a hard time getting a handle what we’re marching for. I always try to focus on goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. I think we need a more focused goal/demand that we can actually have people rally around and obtain. We should have a single demand that the politicians can meaningfully address before the election, or we let them know they will be voted out. One thing that we can all get behind, that will bring millions, not hundreds, into the streets to demand. Any politician that doesn’t support that demand will know that they will be amongst the unemployed in 15 months.

    Please fix your up arrows so we can vote – and could you post where the Finance Meeting at 4PM is happening?

    We need to physically relocate from Westlake Park and move to an area that has more direct contact with our politicians and allows us to grow in Size. We need to move to either the steps bellow City Hall or the Federal Courthouse Building on 7th Ave.

    Today when i reached the intersection (Pike and 4th I think) around 5.30 there were demonstrators sitting in the street and people standing around them. They were surrounded by police on bicycles. The police waited patiently. After some time (half an hour?) the people voted to move on, which most of them did. Two people continued to sit in the intersection and were later arrested by the police.
