Decolonize/Occupy Seattle March on Darigold! Friday, January 27th!

We call on all people to join with the United Farm Workers and Decolonize/Occupy Seattle to demand justice for Farm workers. On January 27, 2012 we will meet at Westlake at 2pm and march to the Darigold Headquarters at 1130 Rainier Ave. South. There we will rally at 3pm to call on Darigold to take immediate action to resolve the issues facing workers at Ruby Ridge. Transportation will be provided for those who need it.

The farm worker’s fight is the same fight against corporate greed that has led to the occupy movement. They are part of the 99%! JOIN THOUSANDS to demand that Darigold use its influence over its dairies to stop the abuses. Tell them they cannot ignore farm workers!!

Most people don’t know that the Kesey family started Darigold. They were even able to get an anti-trust exemption. While I don’t have a problem with protesting Darigold Ken Kesey’s trust fund kid lives in Seattle. Maybe we should bring the protest to his doorstep?

Being a milker used to be a good job in Washington. It paid well and a milker usually got a home free of rent as part of his compensation. When the government bought out most of the family farms all that was left was the big corporate farm. They replaced the milkers who were part of our communities with undocumented labor and immigrant labor. Since then the wage for milkers has steadily been reduced. Now a miler receives less in monthly compensation than he would have in 1976.

Most people don’t realize that milk is one of the heaviest subsidized industries in the nation. The government, me and you, give these large dairy farms subsidies on every gallon of milk they produce. Because the small family farms are gone the subsidies go to corporations. Darigold also is a co-op, over the years it has been taken over by these corporations.

I’ve met Kesey’s kid several times, he’s a poetry righting neo-hippy type that gets a regular monthly check for being the son of someone famous. Why not bring it to his house, he is one of those that receive a direct benefit from the exploitation of the workers.

What would the point be? Does he have the ability to stop the exploitation? Does he have the ability to help get our message to a wider audience? Or do you just not like this kid?

Just thinking that if you could get one of the owners to publicly denounce Darigold’s actions that it would have a positive impact. Given the fact that Kesey’s kid participates in Decolonize Seattle it should be a fairly simple thing to accomplish.

Or maybe because he is a neo-hippy with famous parents and a trust fund he is unapproachable? In reality, I’m sure he would be happy to help and lend his voice to help make this situation right and bring justice to the workers.

Let’s go and fight for the farmers. I will be there I am going to wear a brown jacket and a hat, if anyone is intersted to talk to me, especially my favorite peeps. You know who you are. Also letKs hae a moment of silence for prayer for our President that he will not drag us to a war with Iran. Has anyone seen the news lately? US is building up military around Iran.

We need to protest against military military build-up in Iran. I would like to see that happening next week. Let us not seat this one out until the war starts.
